Thankfully, Jesus Is Able To Defend Himself Without Violence

 by George Weir –

As a Christian, I hope that I’m fully prepared to defend the teachings of Jesus.  Also I hope that I’m prepared to defend his (Holy Name), but, nowhere is his teachings does he subscribe to violence.  While he was dying on the cross, being crucified by merciless men, his words were, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”.

As a Mormon, I also am taught to follow the prophets, but also as a Mormon, I am taught to be an example of tolerance and respect to all, even to those that don’t believe.  As a Mormon I too have been subjected to harsh words and words spoken against our prophet, but the difference is, even the prophet Joseph Smith which founded the church is 1830 would probably say, The gospel of Jesus Christ needs no defense because it is true.

We are now living in a world of religious violence, and this violence is being felt throughout the world, and there are no winners and certainly no just cause.

On January 7th, 2015, gunmen rushed a publishing house in France and murdered 11 people because of some publication depicting their prophet Muhammad in a manner that they believe to be offensive, hoping to stop any future publishing about their faith.

We have seen these acts carried out in the name of Islam, not Christianity, not Buddhism, not Judaism, nor any other religion.

Religion must stand on its own merits, Prophets also must stand on their own merits.   If these Islamic terrorist truly believe, and if they are truly followers of the Prophet Muhammad, they should let their Islamic religion stand on its own.  If it is religion of peace, then they should publish peace, not violence.

Jesus gave his followers this mandate, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost’.   I believe the key work in this is (teach) not command, nor demand, but simply teach.

As being a Christian, when possible, show others the gospel of Christ, and if they believe, that is great, but if not, Jesus is well able to defend his own name and his own gospel.

In case your wondering if I believe in the defense of the church as a whole, the answer is yes.  We are living in a time when terrorist are attempting to stop the mouths of Christians and all those that will not convert to Islam.  Can we answer the terrorist with the same killing of innocent people, no,  we must take the higher road.

One of their most dreaded form of combat is the written work.  That is the very reason they stormed the publishing firm in France, to stop the written work, which opens to all the world their ignorance and  cowardly ways.

As a Nation we must defend our constitution, in our constitution we find our right to practice our religion, and the right to express our religion without the threat of death.

But as far as Jesus defending himself, he is well able.  There is a day coming, I don’t know when, no one does, when Jesus will appear again, and at that time all people will call him Lord.

Yes, I will defend the Church of Jesus Christ, but Jesus himself and his gospel needs no defending because if the world itself vanish, Jesus will always live.
