Open Letter To The NRA

First, let me say that I don’t own a gun, and am not a member of the NRA. In fact, I’ve never even fired a gun; however, several members of my family are gun-owners, and/or outdoorsmen.

I am, however, 100% in support of the U.S. Constitution, and am concerned over the current administration’s recent maneuvers to regulate/restrict the Second Amendment rights of Americans to bear arms. Clearly, this is an abuse of power, and America’s Founding Fathers must be shaking their heads (or pointing their fingers) to warn us First, let me say that I don’t own a gun, and am not a member of the NRA.

Clearly, this is an abuse of power, and America’s Founding Fathers must be shaking their heads (or pointing their fingers) to warn us against tyranny and demagoguery.

They knew exactly what they were doing, those wise men who gathered in Philadelphia’s Constitution Hall during a sweltering summer in 1787 to draft and then ratify the Constitution (holy writ, according to Supreme Court Justice, Brennan).

Our Founders knew what living under tyranny was, and no doubt drafted the Second Amendment to grant American citizens rights of protection against a potentially abusive and tyrannical government.

Fast forward to the 21st Century, and it appears those 18th Century visionaries’ fears are just as relevant today, in the 21st Century, as they were then. Perhaps more so.

Mr. Keene was right in rejecting the White House’s gun control recommendations! And, there are no simple answers to remedy the incidents of violence in America, but perhaps we could start by compelling the entertainment industry to stop producing movies that graphically depict and glorify violence in movies, videos and discs.

I support the NRA and your president, David Keene for defending our Second Amendment rights. If the president feels so strongly about this issue, I recommend that he lead by example and perhaps order the Secret Service to arm themselves with water pistols. Ridiculous, he’d say. Yep, and so is his assault on our Constitutional rights.

Finally, we live in a free society, thank God, which places ultimate responsibility and accountability on the individual—not the government. And we can thank our Founders, who, inspired by Providence, delivered a document in “holy writ” unparalleled in world history.

With great regard,
Bea McIntyre
