by George Weir –
It has now been 2,000 years since the first Missionaries received the mandate to preach the (Gospel Of Peace). From the gospel of Matthew – Ch. 29-Vrs. 19-20, Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the World.
And since that day missionaries, (as they have been called to give this service) have left home , family and friends, and in many circumstances suffered death, disease, and have served in some of the most inhospitable and dangerous places on Earth, but through all this, the work continues.
I am a Mormon, and as much as I wish to write about the Mormon missionaries, I would rather give credit to those missionaries from all points of light.
I’m sure that all my readers have at some point in time have heard the knock on the door, to find that the knocks were missionaries, I know that I do, my house is not off limits. Do I listen to all,(No), but I believe they do deserve respect, serving a full time mission is nothing but hard work, but rewarding.
Before I go any further, I realize that down through the ages their have been some missionaries that lost sight of their mission to teach the good news of Jesus Christ, and yes there have been wars between the various sects of Christianity, but through the teaching of Christ, we found ways of solving the problems through a peaceful method, because we see that fighting between each other wasn’t the mandate of Christ.
What really is the mandate of a missionary? Of course preach the gospel, but that is not all. Missionaries are to serve the people. As they make their rounds each day in the neighborhoods in which they have been sent, they try to acquaint themselves with the people, you may at times find them helping someone fixing their home, other times you may find them helping someone to the doctor if they have no other way, if they are serving in a rural area, you may find them hauling hay, helping the farmer.
I have never served a mission, but I do at times accompany them on some of their mission, and sadly, not everywhere they go are they welcome, yes they are accustomed to NO, NO, No, but they just keep on trying to find someone to help.
The wandering feet of the missionary have made all the difference. They have brought new hope to those that are fighting the habit of drugs, they have brought new hope to family’s that were on the brink of separation, they have proved to be a shoulder to cry on when in the darkness of death, yes they have brought light into a dark and fearful world.
They receive no wages, and I’m sure that some of the time they may experience hunger, but they go on, seeking for the next person in need. This only touches the surface of the great work of the missionary, and, I writ this for only one reason, to show the great contrast between the Christian missionary and those that seek to destroy the teaching of Jesus Christ.
When a Christian missionary comes to your front door he or she isn’t carrying a weapon of destruction, they do not wish to force anyone into excepting anything , they have been taught that the gospel of Christ has to be excepted through love, and that everyone has this choice to make on their on, and that no one can be forced to believe.
But we are entering into a world that reasonable people don’t understand. There is a cloud of darkness spreading from one part of the globe to the other, and this darkness is the enemy of all free people.
It may seem that I’m preaching the gospel of Christ, but actually I’m preaching the gospel of freedom, and I believe this belongs to everyone regardless of their acceptance to any religion.
Whether one believes in God or not, if this cloud of darkness isn’t addressed and stopped, even the unbeliever will be forced to bow to the religion of murder and intimidation.
Yes, Christians have made mistakes, and I’m sure that there be more mistakes to come, but, we have learned to repent, and ask for forgiveness from the almighty, and through this repentance, we learn.
It would be my wish that those that are intent on covering the world with darkness would take a page from the Christian missionary, and put their hands to good work and not destruction.
I’m sure that there are millions of people out of every religion that only wish for peace, but for peace, they can only wish, but we that live in America, the land of the free, we must fight.
But where must we first began to fight?….in the highest parts of our government. We must demand honesty, and an honest day’s work from our Congress.
Also the American people must demand that our constitution must be observed and be considered before making any decisions regarding the lives of the American people.
But above all else, the Government has a mandate to keep us free from all foreign invaders.
Soon there will be an election, folks, this is where our voice is heard, let our voices be heard loud an clear.
We are surly at a crossroads, which way will we go?
