Two Different Book Reviews: ‘Cheap Sex’ & ‘PC Destruction Of Social Order’

Review: 2 Provocative Recent Books: Mark Regnerus, Cheap Sex, & Howard Schwartz, Political Correctness & Destruction of Social Order.

After decades of one-sided publishing by academic scholars who are almost all cheerleaders for the Sexual Revolution, we are starting to see quite a few stimulating new books that venture to question the orthodoxy, and increasingly they are by respectable scholars. Here I review two provocative recent books: Mark Regnerus, Cheap Sex, and Howard Schwartz, Political Correctness and the Destruction of Social Order. In fact, these two books might profitably be read and considered together, as they offer quite different approaches to the changing relations between the sexes (sorry, genders).

I hope to review more recent books on connected topics, most of which appeared too late for me to include much of their findings in The New Politics of Sex.

Now that scholars and journalists are starting to overcome their fear of the feminists, there will be important material for them to work with, inaccuracies to rectify, errors to correct, fabrications to expose…

Mark Regnerius, Cheap Sex: The Transformation of Men, Marriage, and Monogamy,

The Sexual Revolution continues to inspire an outpouring of new books, not all of which present a benign picture of the consequences.

Yet it is still rare for a scholar employed at a state-funded university to weigh in on family-sexual issues with any viewpoint other than sympathy for radical left ideology, and even rarer for his work to be published by a major university press. That Mark Regnerus manages this feat makes him something of a hero to conservative Christians desperate for academic respectability.
